A national flag is a flag  that symbolizes a country. The flag is flown by the government, but usually can also be flown by citizens of the country.

National flags are potent patriotic symbols with varied wide-ranging interpretations, often including strong military associations due to their original military uses. Flags are also used in messaging, advertising, or for other decorative purposes. The study of flags is known as vexillology, from the Latin word vexillum, meaning flag or banner.

The flag of Australia is a defaced Blue Ensign: a blue field with the Union Jack in the canton (upper hoist quarter), and a large white seven-pointed star known as the Commonwealth Star in the lower hoist quarter. The fly contains a representation of the Southern Cross constellation, made up of five white stars – one small five-pointed star and four, larger, seven-pointed stars.

The flag of the United States of America, is the national flag of the United States of America. It consists of thirteen equal horizontal stripes of red alternating with white, with a blue rectangle in the canton  bearing fifty small, white, five-pointed stars arranged in nine offset horizontal rows, where rows of six stars alternate with rows of five stars.

The national flag of Brazil is a blue disc depicting a starry sky spanned by a curved band inscribed with the national motto "Order and Progress", within a gold rhombus, on a green field. Brazil officially adopted this design for its national flag on November 19, 1889, replacing the flag of the Empire of Brazil.

The national flag of Argentina is a triband, composed of three equally wide horizontal bands colored light blue, and white. There are multiple interpretations on the reasons for those colors. The flag was created by Manuel Belgrano, in line with the recent creation of the Cockade of Argentina, and was first raised at the city of Rosario on February 27, 1812, during the Argentine War of Independence.

The flag of the People's Republic of China is a red field charged in the canton (upper corner nearest the flagpole) with five golden stars. The design features one large star, with four smaller stars in a semicircle set off towards the fly. The red represents the communist revolution; the five stars and their relationship represent the unity of the Chinese people under the leadership of the Communist Party of China.

The flag of Canada, is a national flag consisting of a red field with a white square at its centre in the ratio of 1:2:1, in the middle of which is featured a stylized, red, 11-pointed maple leaf charged in the centre.[1] It is the first ever specified by law for use as the country's national flag.
